Top 4 ways to stay motivated

Motivation is the hardest thing to foster but it is the driving force in getting everything done. Motivation can be hard to find when you have deadlines looming overhead and even harder when you become desperate to find it.

I know what it feels like when you lose your motivation and I tend to do so when I need it the most. It leaves me laying listlessly on the couch without a care in the world while deadlines fly around in the air and eventually all the responsibilities I have pile up so high that it leaves me breathless.

So in hopes that I can help you and myself, here are my top 4 ways to jumpstart your motivation.

1. Do one thing you love

When you are so busy that it feels like all you do is work that is a signal that you need to slow down. I get it, you are busy but that is going to crash down around you if you don’t take care of yourself. So find one thing you love to do and set aside 5 mins, 20 mins or an hour to dedicate to you and the thing you love. Make time for yourself and then go back and tackle that to-do list.

2. Make a list

Bouncing off the first one. Lists. They work. Make a list of important to least important and make a time frame for each ones completion (give yourself extra time to complete to make room for self-care.) Lists help to keep you organized and on topic. Plus it is insanely satisfying to see a list that is completely checked off.

3. Why are you doing this

You need to have a reason for doing what you are doing so that it means something. So that you feel accomplished and happy when you complete. Explore why you want to complete something and hold on tight. Remind yourself what your purpose is frequently to keep you on track.

4. Breathe

Failing doesn’t mean quit! Take a deep breath with me. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Repeat this 5 times. Slowly, eyes closed. You can do this. Everything you need to get things done comes from you. You are amazing and exactly who you need to be. So take one more deep breath and start again.

Remember, as cliché as it is, your track record is perfect. Everything that has been thrown at you, you have conquered and come out on top. So start again and get this shit done.

Cheers,

JMaxwell
