Jakob received this for Christmas from his Grandma and we finally finished it.
It was way too cool and detailed to not photograph it.
Birchbox just started to ship to Canada in December so I decided to subscribe. I absolutely loved December’s box but I wanted to see the January box before I decided to start up reviews on Birchbox and here we are.
I absolutely love the packaging and this months message “Let’s do this!” is perfect timing as I’ve been a little bit stressed with my work load this month.
This months goodies!
Lets take a closer look at the products.
Beauty Protector– Hair Mask. Full size retails for $30.
The hair mask is given in two small sample containers that are one use each.
I have tried it and not only does it make your hair silky smooth but it also smells delicious!
Embryolisse- Lait-Creme Concentre– Face Moisturizer. Full size retails for $16-28 (depending on size.)
This moisturizer is great, it has a nice neutral scent that isn’t too strong and applies smoothly without feeling greasy.
Harvey Prince- Hello Liquid Loofah. Full size retails for $22.
I wasn’t fond of the scent at first but it definitely gets you clean and removes all your dead skin. After 5 minutes out of the shower the scent is worn off enough that it smells good.
ModelCo- Party Proof Lipstick in the shade Dusk Until Dawn– Full size (set of 3) retails for $20.
Oh this lipstick, it is super smooth and silky to apply. I also adore this shade (it shows up a little orangey in the photo but it is more a shimmery brown/nude shade.)
Whish- Shave Cream– Full size retails for $20.
I was really excited to receive this product because I have heard a lot about it and it totally lived up to my expectations. This shave cream is super smooth and works great while shaving. Leaving you silky soft!
So that is the January 2015 Birchbox, I gotta say this box has impressed me so far. Let’s hope they continue to hold my attention!

So this is a delicious peppermint snack that is super simple to make. I had lots of fun with this recipe.
What you will need:
¼ cup butter, softened
⅓ cup light corn syrup
3 – 4 cups powdered sugar, divided
1 – 2 tsp peppermint extract or mint extract OR any other extract you want
food coloring – preferably gel or paste
½ cup granulated sugar (to roll balls in)
First, you want to mix the corn syrup and butter together.
You want it to be as mixed as possible!
Then you want to add the mint/peppermint extract, add 1 tsp of peppermint extract and 1/2 tsp until you reach the desired taste.
Get ready to add your icing sugar. This will be messy. (This is my favorite part.)
Once you have it to a dough like consistency (it will be a little more squishy than a bread dough.)
You will want to put powder sugar down on your work space, so you can knead the dough.
After it is thick enough to roll into balls, you will want to add your food colouring. I chose pink and a green color.
You will then roll it into balls and roll in granulated sugar.
I forgot to take a picture of the last step but it is fairly simple.
Take a baking pan and a piece of parchment paper.
Then set the rolled ball and squish it with a fork. So it is a flat disc.
Let them sit for 4 hours and boom! Delicious peppermint treats.
This batch makes 30-40 peppermint discs.
