Gaming and me: Steam summer sale is almost over.

This is an extension of my first gaming and me where I talked about the games I already picked up from the summer sale and ones that I still wanted. A few followers asked if I was going to update on my purchases and I thought, why not!?

Well let’s just say, I got a ton of games this summer sale and I spent just over $20 bucks! Woohoo!

I am so incredibly happy with the turn out and I got almost everything on my wish list as well.

First here is what I purchased during the sale:

To the Moon: Oh boy, this game is so very emotional, such a sad but happy at the same time storyline.  I have beat this one already but definitely re-playable.

Octodad: I have beat this one too and it is so much fun to play.  I had a riot and my boyfriend loves to watch me play.  Controlling an octopus and completing challenges is a lot of fun.  Definitely re-playable.

Tomb Raider: This game surprised me. I knew that it would be good, but I didn’t anticipate how amazing it is.  The graphics are great, it looks really realistic and there is so many different elements to the game that you end up getting lost in the immense world.  The storyline is fantastic.  I can’t wait for the next one to come out (which is coming holiday 2015.)

Awesomenauts: I have not played this one yet but it looks like it will be an enjoyable game.  It is a plat-former game in cartoon robots that are defending the planet.  Yup, I can’t wait to start this one.

Deus Ex- Human Revolution: I originally picked this game up for my boyfriend but once I saw him playing it, I just had to pick up a copy of it for myself.  It looks like a lot of fun and slightly challenging so I look forward to starting this game soon.

Millie: This one was a random purchase.  I don’t really know much about it.  It looks really cute and is a casual puzzle game about a millipede who always wanted to be a pilot. You must help her reach her goal.  I picked it up for 0.49 cents, I figured it was worth a try.

Portal one and two: Oh Portal, I have been in love with this game ever since I played it on my boyfriends computer a long long time ago.  When I saw that it was on sale and also playable on Mac, I almost fainted.  So I grabbed up one and two because Portal is my love. You must complete physical puzzles within the game to move through the levels while following the storyline.  Great storyline, great game. Re-playable, so much!

System shock 2: I picked this up, it is the building block that helped create Bioshock.  So I had to try it out.  I am excited to try out this game as it looks like a great shooter-style game as well as extremely creepy.

World of Goo:  This is a type of strategy game where you build goo towers with goo balls to help them escape up a pipe.  It’s a fun time-waster style game. It’s lots of fun, definitely re-playable.

I’m good for games for a very long time.  I can’t believe all these games came to just over $20 bucks. Steam, have I told you lately that I love your summer sales.

The only games that I wanted that I didn’t get were Rust, Plague Inc-Evolved and Planet Explorers.  This games all retail for around $13-$20 each and I just didn’t want to part with the money at this point. I will purchase these ones slowly over time or cross my fingers they are part of the winter sale 😉  If you would like to join me on steam, add me: MissMaxwell91.

*If you would like me to do an in-detail review of any of the games listed, please let me know.*

**I purchased all of these games with my own money and I am in no way sponsored by steam.**

RECIPE: Stove-top cookies

I’m back with a delicious cookie recipe that doesn’t require the oven.

Let’s get started,

You will need:

1 cup of unsalted butter

3 tbsp chocolate chips

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup milk

1/8 tsp salt

3/4 cup peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 cups of quick oats

First you will want to melt your butter in a frying pan over medium heat.

Melt the sugar and salt until completely liquified.

Add your chocolate chips and milk.  Let melt completely and throughly mixed.

Once it boils and looks like this, take it off the heat.  At this point, set up baking trays with parchment paper and spray/grease them.

Add peanut butter and the vanilla and stir until well combined.

Now for the messiest and most fun part.  Add the oats!

Mix until it is well combined and move it over to the baking pan section. It’s time to form the cookies!

I use an ice cream scoop to form the balls and then tap them onto the greased cookie sheet.

All done, now what you do is set them out on the counter for 45 minutes and let them set.

You can also set them in the freezer for 15 minutes.

They are crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. So delicious!

Gaming and Me

It’s an appropriate time to do this blog because the Steam Summer Sale just launched yesterday and runs until June 30th.  There are daily deals, low prices and games galore.

My boyfriend and I always budget at least $50 bucks ($25 each) for both the Summer Sale and Winter Sale.

Now this sale is my biggest weakness, who can turn down 60-80% off the games you have wanted all year?

Throughout the year I add things to my steam wish list and when the summer sale comes on, I check daily to see the discounts that are out for them.

I am also a huge Humble Bundle lover. Humble bundle is a monthly and you can pick up 4-7 games for under $10 bucks.  They also have weekly bundles, ebook bundles and a store where you can purchase separate games.

What I/my boyfriend have purchased so far from the Steam Sale,

  • Octodad Dadliest Catch: I have wanted this game for the longest time and it was on sale for 66% off making it only $5.
  • To the Moon: This game is said to be a real emotional journey and who doesn’t love a game that can hit you in the feels. I picked it up for $2.99.
  • The Witcher 2: My boyfriend bought this one because The Witcher 3 is coming out soon so he has to catch up 😉  It was on for 80% off and cost $3.99.   You can also get The Witcher 1 for $1.99 in this sale.

That’s it for purchases so far but it’s only the 2nd day of the sale! 😉

Games I want during the sale:

Portal and Portal 2, they are on sale for 50% off right now or in a bundle deal for $12 but I want to see how low they will go.

Rust, It’s not on sale and retails for $19.99 but a girl can hope that it will go on for sale soon.

Plague Inc Evolved, it’s on sale right now for 33% off making it $10.04 but I want to see how low it will go.

Let’s talk about my favorite computer games for my macbook. (All pictures are screenshots from my actual gameplay.)

Don’t Starve:

I absolutely love this game, survival, crazy art and hours of fun. You end up dying a lot but it’s so much fun to explore and try to survive.

Octopus dad who has a secret.  Complete missions with your clumsy character, endless hours of fun!

Left for Dead 2:

Killing zombies all day and night, what’s not to love. I absolutely love the online play and have made some amazing friends on this game.

Little Inferno:

I got this game through a humble bundle and I am so happy I picked it up.  It’s a simple concept, follow missions and challenges while burning items in a fire place. You combine different items to gain money and it’s a fun time-waster game with an evil, creepy twist.

This evil Disney looking game is much more than I expected. My boyfriend gifted it to me on steam and I am so glad he did. I have spent so much time playing it and it has an excellent storyline.

These are just a small handful of games that I love. I also enjoy playing console games on the xbox 360/xbox one and ps3/4, etc.

I started out playing games on the NES, maybe I should do a “retro” gaming blog too?  let me know 😉

Gaming is a big part of my life, it’s the entertainment I choose instead of going out to the bar. Now I’m off to show Jakob Octodad,  I have a feeling he is going to love watching me play it.

Two of my favorite quotes and why

The two quotes that I am in love with are: “The truth needs no translation.” and “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

The first one: “The truth needs no translation.” means a lot to me to me on a very personal level.

To me this quote is about being true to yourself and knowing 100% that what you are doing is with an honest intent. The fact that others may doubt you, may try to call you out for being a phoney, doesn’t matter because the truth will come out in the end.

The truth doesn’t need to be explained or reiterated, the truth just is.

The second quote:  “Be the change you want to see in the world.” is a quote that I fell in love with in high school.

This quote was what woke me up from my own stupor when I was in high school.  I was that teenager that blamed the world for my problems never really looking too deeply at myself. I was angry at the world for being cruel and unforgiving which is true at times, even now.  The part that I was missing in high school was that I could make a difference, maybe not in respect to the whole entire world but in respect to the people around me. I could be a light that led people through their hard times or a firm shake to set people straight when they were messing up terribly.

I forgot when I was in high school that I was a part of the world and I could change my outlook and maybe even other peoples outlook.  This quote showed me that change starts with me and my small adjustment might encourage others to do the same.

These quotes follow me through out my life and remind me to keep my head on straight and look towards the positives.

June 2014-Julep Maven Unboxing

Hello everybody!

I have my June Julep box and I thought it would be good to do an unboxing blog post for you.

First things first, I am not sponsored by Julep (though that would be pretty sweet!) I am just doing this because I know a lot of my followers enjoy these types of posts.

Julep Maven is a nail/beauty box, you take a quiz on the website and it chooses which chooses your style profile.  They will then send you monthly boxes that match your style.  You can change your style profile if you want to.  My style for this specific box is “Classic with a Twist.”

Let’s get to the unboxing!

I opened the purple-pink box to find glittering gold paper and a bunch of coupon codes for products on Julep.

A perk of being a Julep Subscriber is you get 20% off products that are on the Julep Maven website.

You get rewards for referring people to Julep Maven with your specific Julep code (No code from me, you can sign up on your own, I’ll leave the website link on the bottom of this post.  It would be unfair to post my code on here with so many followers, I’d always get a free box.)

This month we got a code that gives you a free polish with your $15 purchase from the Julep store and a 30% of the Oxygen product line code.

Now on to the products!  This month I was surprised to find three Willy Wonka pixie sticks in my box, (I guess that was the twist for this month.)

Box price: $27 monthly subscription, cancel any time with NO penalties.

I also received two amazing nail polishes. One is a red/mauve color that shimmers and a classic grey shimmer polish.   I also received  the Oxygen base coat that is used to smooth out imperfections in your nails to make sure that your nail polish glides on smoothly.

The red polish is called: Ariana and retails for $14.

The grey polish is called: Bergen, also retails for $14.

The Oxygen base coat retails for $18.

Total product value: $46 plus the pixie sticks.

It is definitely worth the money if you like this style of products and as well if you like to receive surprise gifts every month.

3 unhealthy habits and 3 healthy habits.

Hey lovelies!

I hope that you are all doing well on this wonderful day 🙂

I wanted to start doing a few more personal blogs as per request from a few of my awesome followers.

The topic I would like to talk about is habits.

Habit is defined as “a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.”

Since I have been trying to change my life in a huge way lately, I figured the best habit that I could point out are my unhealthy ones that I am trying to break and healthy ones that I have picked up since January 2014 when I started this rocky journey to getting healthy not fit, not skinny, not anything of that kind of sort. I just want to be healthy.

Now let’s get started with the unhealthy part first.

Unhealthy habit #1:  Skipping breakfast.

This is a huge no-no when it comes to being healthy.  Breakfast is what kick starts your metabolism, gives you energy and helps elevate your mood.  Plus if you eat regular meals/snacks throughout the day you are less likely to slip up and binge on unhealthy treats.

Unhealthy habit #2: Drinking way too much pop/sugary drinks.

Now I’m not advocating getting rid of pop completely.  I could never do that, I have a love of Root beer as well as Cola but the amount you drink and how often is the biggest part.  I used to drink way too much maybe two pops a day, every day.  I still do drink a lot but I am slowly weaning myself off. The amount of sugar in pop is insane and also can cause sugary cravings which leads to overeating.  Not good.  Pop drinking is good in moderation, just like everything you eat.

Unhealthy habit #3: Eating out of boredom.

I am a huge offender of this one.  I eat dinner and put my little one to bed. I sit in front of the television or with a book, finally able to relax but then I feel the need to snack for something to do. It’s extremely hard to get out of the habit but it has to be done.  I still fail at this time to time.  It’s a hard habit to break.  When I get up to look in the cupboards or fridge, I try to ask myself why I think I’m hungry and if I decide that I want food anyways, I try to grab something healthy like carrots or grapes.

Now the healthy ones.

Healthy habit #1: Drinking lots of water.

This is so so so important, I finally came to realize that the reason why I was so tired and grumpy most days was because I was dehydrated.  Drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up kick-start your metabolism and gets your organs functioning after a long night of sleep.

Healthy habit #2:  Smoothies for breakfast.

This has helped me immensely lately because I have never been one to eat breakfast. I usually wouldn’t have my first meal until around 12 or 1 in the afternoon.  The smoothie provides the nutrients and the energy you need to tide you over until lunch.  Plus it is simple to make and eat. (see my previous post under the recipe category for my two fave smoothie recipes.)

Healthy habit #3: Portion control.

This has been a struggle my whole life but I have mastered this for the majority of my meals.  I use a few things to help.  Use a smaller plate, you will still be satisfied with a “full” plate but it will be a smaller more reasonable amount. I drink a glass of water before I start eating and finally I eat slowly. It takes your brain 20 minutes to process that it’s full so if you eat too fast, you up the risk of overeating.

With that being said, I have a lot more unhealthy and healthy things that I do but these are just a few. This is also stuff that I do personally for my journey to a healthy lifestyle, not everyone will like how I do things but it helps me and may help others who want to give it a try.

Find what works for you and keep at it. 🙂

DIY Body Scrub

Hello again!

I’m here with yet another DIY scrub but this time, it’s for the rest of your body (including your face!) This is a super easy, cheap and delicious smelling scrub that you will get obsessed over.

I decided to share my recipe for it because I saw one that was very similar to mine (except the one I saw had a ton of other unnecessary chemicals.) and the scrub cost over $20 bucks. Ouch no, thanks.  I’ll make my own for under three bucks, thanks!  (The only expensive part of this project is the mason jars but they are reusable so I think they are worth it.)

So let’s get started!

This is what you need:

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 cup brown sugar

10 drops of peppermint ( I recommend peppermint essential oil but I’m all out so extract will have to do.)

2 wide mouth mason jars (you can use any size/style, I prefer these ones because it’s easy to scoop it out.)

Take your 1/2 cup of coconut oil and put it into a microwave safe bowl.

Microwave it for 30 seconds or until it is completely liquefied.

Now take your melted coconut oil and your cup of brown sugar, pour it together and add 10 drops of peppermint extract, (you can add more or less depending on how fragrant you want it.)

Now that you have it all mixed, try it out on your fingers. Take your thumb and pointer finger and scrub them. If it is exfoliating enough for you, you are good to go.

If you want a harsher scrub, add more sugar.

If you want a lighter scrub, add more melted coconut oil a tsp at a time.

Now you are ready to pour it into your mason jars.

There you go, all done.

To use this scrub all you have to do is stir before use, apply to any body part (except your privates, sugar is a big no-no for that area.) and then all you have to do is scrub it over your skin to get rid of all the dead skin.  Then just wash off with your favorite scented soap and you will have super smooth, clean skin.

Please let me know if there are any other DIY projects you want me to do 🙂 Comment down below or go to my about me section to find out how to contact me.
